What’s really in an ink cartridge? Is it toxic?
Ok, crazy question…I recently bought a house and the previous owner had a cartridge refilling company in the basement. Well needless to say the ink is all over the ductwork in the basement and is now showing up in my bathroom, and my daughter and I have been sick 3 times since we moved in Dec. I now noticed with the cold I have, that I am sneezing cartridge ink. Is this harmful, what exactly is in it and is their any medical concerns I should have? My daughter was recently in the hospital and they found traces of lead in her blood, could this be from the ink? Any answers would greatly be appreciated!
Black Ink cartridges contain:
IRON OXIDE Percent: 45-55%
STYRENE-ACRYLIC COPOLYMER Percent: 40-45%
POLYOLEFIN Percent: <5%
SILICA GEL Percent: <2%
CHROMIUM/AZO DYE COMPLEX Percent: <1%
I don't know if any of this is toxic, but as far as I know any chemical substance in large quantities AIN'T healthy. If this was not disclosed by the previous owner, you may be able to sue his ass, or in the least get the ventilation system cleaned / replaced. But for heaven sakes do something now!
